You have probably heard about oily skin, but did you know that some people naturally have oily nail plates? Some people manage to maintain a flawless manicure for weeks on end, whilst others may not be able to go longer than 2-3 weeks. Usually, the culprit of this is an oily nail bed.
Just like your skin, your nails have different levels of moisture and oil levels. An oily nail plate will often prevent any acrylic or gel manicure lasting longer than 2-3 weeks.
Don’t panic though! A qualified nail tech will be able to identify an oily nail bed and will have the correct tools in their arsenal to help your gel/acrylic last longer.
Here’s the science; Sebaceous glands in your skin will produce oils that get stored in the skin and nails. Some people produce more oils than others – which is why some people have oily skin.
Oily nails can be identified by their appearance and their previous reactions to gel/acrylic manicures. Be honest with your nail tech about your nails and your aftercare. We can then identify any problems and rectify them for your next set.
